The cicada sings and the nightingale replies
the women of the mill wear an ugly blouse

Although their blouses are black, their eyes are still beautiful
the women of the mill make the spindles go up and down.

THE CICADA SINGS

Song about the spinner-women

This song was not actually from the spinning mills but was sung for the women who worked in the mill and can be considered a hymn in their honour. Although forced into such unidyllic working conditions, they were the worthy bearers of a beauty of their own that made them the protagonists of this song.
